  CORRUPTION
CORRUPÇÃO
Just like any other European country, Portugal, too, has its fair share of scandals surrounding their football pros. Allegations of corruption keep on surfacing and then bother fans, experts - and the legal system. The latest film of well-known Portuguese director Joao Botelho - which incidentally he refuses to acknowledge as his own due to discrepancies with his producer - is based upon the life of a woman, who spent many years of her life living with the head of the corruption-network of Portuguese football. Botelho ("The Woman who Believed She was President of the United States of America") himself is a big football-fan (Benfica Lissabon), so he should know what he's talking about. He describes a fanatical love for football, the temptation of wealth and power and the greed - eating its way through the brains and hearts of his protagonists, much like an insatiable fire, seducing them to abandon their lives as lawful citizens. Why not prepare for the EM 2008 in an alternative way, move the training pitch into the cinema? After all, the Portuguese have qualified already - in nothing but the most honourable of ways.

OV with English and Spanish subtitles.

Main actor Nicolau Breyner and producer Alexandre Valente will personally present the film in Madrid.
